Ever used Feng Shui in your home environment, and if so, did it make a difference?

I've been playing with the idea for a while now……even had a friend send me a book called, "Feng Shui On A Budget" or something like that…..but haven't gotten around to actually putting it into practice.

If you've used it, can you offer some advice or insight?

When I was an elementary art teacher, I ran across some difficulty in having all my students listen.I taught roughly 850 students a week in my art classroom and discipline, focus and even cooperation were all difficult so I searched for ways to use my classroom’s environment as a away to calm the students down and to nourish creativity and learning. Feng Shui was the answer. I had the typical art room, bright walls with primary colors, alot of art supplies cluttering the room, desks in groups where they face each other instead of me. I did alot of research and took some training. I painted the room myself, decluttered, found out where the good energy was and opened that window everyday. I changed the group seating to a soft curve where all there energy was focused on me. Kind of like Oprah's stage. I found out there was a conflict star that causes fighting and I treated that with fire and metal. So the environment changed so much that the classroom teachers would often stay after dropping off their class and read or write their lesson plans on a leather couch that I brought in. They would make comments about my classroom being more soothing than their the teacher’s lounge or their own classrooms. So in answer to your question it made a huge difference so much that I was voted teacher of the year in my county. The kids also voted art as their favorite special year after year until I retired.

Recently I thought maybe it was about time to have a clearout as a lot of my stuff I didnt' use or need. I would strongly recommend the minimalist way…………. good for the soul.
Definetly go with the.if it's not beautiful or being used then bin it attitude. Same train of thought could be applied to partners.

Wikipedia says Feng Shui is "the ancient Chinese practice of placement and arrangement of space to achieve harmony with the environment.". So, by this, I guess 3000 years ago Monks had a problem figuring out where the ottoman went in the living room for maximum comfort. The way I look at it, move your crap around in your house so that when you come home, you are comfortable. Arrange your junk so that you can fully relax and have the things around you that you need to do so. I don't think you need a book to tell you what crap you need to buy for your house to be comfortable. Mine is an old futon, my TV, DVD player, and laptop. Beer helps too. I don't think that is in any book, but I bet you the monks had the same idea; sit down and have a beer. That is Fung Shway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I heard someone say once that the definition of Feng Shui was that people will believe anything…….

first, i like to point out that fengshui IS NOT ABOUT:
- arrangement of furnitures
- decluttering your space, remember that most chinese houses are cluttered and chaotic, because most chinese housewives are shopaholic and like to hoard things, yet they are rich - meaning fengshui is not about decluttering
- a decorating style
- certain dragon statues, mirrors, or bagua
- the flow of chi in the sense that most books publish it to be (you cannot feel or sense the flow of chi, you can calculate whether chi is good or bad using the fengshui concepts)
- intuition; it is not a belief; it is using the energy/ chi from the interaction of the 5 elements (fire, water, wood, earth and metal) (the interaction of the 5 elements is not as most books have published it to be or not in the literal sense; you can only understand it if you learned fengshui from a fengshui master or professional); fengshui happens without you believing in it. fengshui is not a religion, not a philosophy (though most taoism practice fengshui; taoism is not a part of fengshui), and it is not a way of life

next, fengshui is actually a group of fengshui concepts, which derived from the concept of yin and yang. it is dependent on space, which holds the chi - the bigger your space, the more chi it holds. as mentioned above, chi can either be good or bad. again fengshui cannot be felt or sensed, only calculated using the formulas. to say that fengshui is an arrangement of furnitures is like looking at the tip of the iceberg missing the big bottom part - and not using the true power of fengshui. >>> fengshui is actually like math; it has its own system to calculate and configurations. the concepts/ formulas are used to take measurements (precise to a half a degree in the 360 degrees), calculate for what is needed and to apply these in the house. what are the solutions for? fengshui is like knowing what areas in your house is good and what areas are bad. we use these to improve out lives by putting the living areas/ bedrooms at the good areas and the toilet and kitchen at the bad areas. why the kitchen at the bad area? well, there is a fengshui secret here that when the kitchen is configured correctly, you can use it to draw in wealth to your life. there are many formulas, all either attract wealth or health, never both, into our lives. having good fengshui is like having a fresh supply of good luck - everything just falls into their rightful place, and life seems to be easier and convenient. there are many secrets in fengshui, which are NOT published in books, even the books by ms. lillian too - she wrote about 8 mansions but did not discuss the secret way to attract wealth using 8 mansions. there is even a formula to locate the toilet to attract more wealth whenever you flush.

last, going back to your question. since i took some fengshui courses under 2 chinese masters some years ago, i haven't still made any major renovations. but i have made some small changes in my house, and so far, life is good - it is convenient. my business is doing better than ever. and i feel luckier than when i didn't know fengshui, because before i used to feel like the world is up against me. before, problems were just mounting up against what i am trying to achieve. now, it is easier.
